Just be warned, I forgot initially take pictures, so when I did get round to it, I didn’t take too many and the ones I did capture aren’t all that great!
This is a simple activity that could be prepared the night before, simply Ice your little ones favourite characters/small toys by filling a container/ziplock bag with water and the toy/item.
I froze Alex the lion, a car and other small toys in separate ziplock bags the night before, I even decided to add red food colouring to one (big mistake! It looked like something had been massacred in there loll) The next day, they were lovely frozen blocks, and you could clearly see what was stuck inside.
I then asked Yousuf (3y 1m) how he was going to free them and I gave him a variety of items to use. He used a plastic knife and fork, which he told me was too hard, as the ice was hard to break and then he used a few different tools, finally he then picked up a squirt bottle filled with warm water and was amazed to see how the warm water melted the ice away and his toys were free. I had to keep a large jug of warm water next to me, as the bottle had to be refilled countless times!
Towards the end of the activity when there was one ice block left, I had Eesa (1y 5m) join in, I don’t think he understood the link between the warm water and Ice, but he had an equally exciting time watching the ice melt away, then of course being able to splash the water about!
